4 Ways to Make Travelling with Children Easier

2 Mins read

If you have kids, then you may see holidays as a fun family time, but not as a relaxing break. While kids can be hard work, there are ways you can make it easier to travel with them, so here are a few tips to make your travels simpler.

  1. Book family friendly accommodation

The key to a relaxed stay with kids is to book accommodation that is appropriate. Do you really want to be stuck in one room with the kids for a week? That’s why families often prefer renting an entire house. If you look for Cape York accommodation, you can find places that are self-contained homes, with facilities such as several bedrooms, kitchens and more, so you have space for all the family.

  1. See what the airline can do for you

Many airlines offer features that make travel easier for families, such as:

  • Being able to take your pushchair, travel cot and other extras on board
  • Free or inexpensive seating assignments so you can sit together
  • Priority boarding for those with kids
  • Kids meals and amenity kits to keep them entertained

What is available will depend on the airline you choose, and the more upmarket airlines tend to offer a lot more when you travel with kids. However, it’s always worth seeing what extras you might get, as they can make your life easier.

  1. If driving, break up your journey

Driving with kids in the car is not a fun experience, especially if they are too young to be entertained by a tablet. Therefore, you should plan carefully and break up the journey as much as possible. Consider cutting your journey in half, or even thirds, and stopping in some small towns en-route. If nothing else, the kids can run around and burn off energy, while you get some rest.

  1. Take plenty of snacks

The worst thing you can have on your hands is a hungry child, so make sure you are stocked with snacks and drinks, just in case you’re on a long stretch of road with no cafés in sight.

Going away with kids is rarely easy, but it doesn’t have to turn into a week of stress. Simply spend some time preparing for the journey, ensuring everything that they need is packed, and make the most of any help you can get. With the right accommodation at the other end, you can enjoy a fairly relaxing break as a family.
